Carthusian Day at Charterhouse School

The London Charterhouse gave its name to Charterhouse Square and several streets in the City of London, as well as to the Charterhouse School which used part if its site before moving out to Godalming. When it was decided to move Charterhouse School from its original home, six potential sites were identified from which the Governors could make their choice. However, Godalming was the outright winner because the then newly appointed Headmaster, Dr. William Haig Brown, had relatives in the area. It turned out to be an inspired decision and the school re-located in 1872.

This was the first year the school has out-sourced the services for this event and RG’s were asked to provide the sound for a show production that covered a formal dinner on Friday night to kick off the celebrations in style and a full day of activities followed on the Saturday.  The brief was wide ranging, from heavy sound tracks to accompany a fire show to solo voice for the Headmasters Speech; jazz bands and string quartets, acappella choirs, Latin declamations and piano recitals were also a feature.  The client was very happy with the result and RG Jones have already been booked for next year.

The client concluded “Every element was superbly handled and could be heard with clarity across a large open-air site. Everyone from the school community commented on the professionalism and competence of the operators. We look forward to working with RG Jones again”.

We contracted RG Jones to provide sound for a diverse programme of events I cannot speak highly enough of the professionalism, calmness and expertise of the engineers who managed all sound for the two venues, from a seamless and well organised installation to an efficient load out.
